Diagnosis: Contact dermatitis. Treatment includes steroid cream, an oral antihistamine. If no improvement refers to a dermatologist. I would prescribe hydrocortisone cream 1% topical. Apply to the affected area three times a day PRN and rub into skin gently X 7 days. Benadryl 25 mg PO BID PRN for itching X 7 days. F/u with this clinic in 5-7 days. If symptoms worsen or you become SOB go to the local ER for further assessment and treatment. Educated patient on the importance of handwashing and showering right after any exercise including hiking, hot tub use, pool use, or anytime you are exposed to any chemical or plant that is unknown to you.
