When cancer patients begin chemotherapy treatment, doctors must optimize the amount of drug that each patient receives. If too little is given, there may not be enough drug to kill all of the cancer cells, or the cancer cells may become resistant. If too much is given, the drug may damage non-cancer cells leading to extreme side effects (nausea, fatigue, etc), organ damage or even death. Explain why doctors would need to use the mole concept when treating patients with cancer.
