Ceftiofur, a third-generation cephalosporin, is classified as a critically important antimicrobial by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is highly valued in human medicine for treating life-threatening diseases. Yet emergence of Salmonella and E. coli and other enteric bacteria resistant to this drug have been reported recently.
