When it comes to treating atrial fibrillation and other cardiac arrhythmias, antiarrhythmic drugs can be a game-changer. They help control your heart's rhythm and prevent those irregular heartbeats. We've got sodium channel blockers like flecainide and propafenone, potassium channel blockers like amiodarone and sotalol, and calcium channel blockers like verapamil and diltiazem. These meds work by messing with the electrical signals in your heart, helping it stay in a normal rhythm. But before you start taking any of these drugs, it's super important to take your medication as prescribed dont skip or change without consulting the doctor, be aware of common side effects such as dizziness, fatigue, nausea and changes in the heart, some medication can interact antiarrhythmic drugs so it to inform your doctor or any other drugs you might be taking even supplement or herbal remedies. (Cleveland Clinic, 2022) I wouldn't change any as of right let him get use to the antiarrhythmic drugs first but the doctor might recommend adding anticoagulant therapy like warfarin or a DOAC. Some teachings you would include : Watch out for bleeding anticoagulant therapy can increase the risk of bleeding, so it's important to be vigilant. Look out for signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising, nosebleeds, or blood in the urine or stool. If anything like that happens, let the doctor know right away.
