Why have CSR and social entrepreneurship recently emerged as alternatives to the traditional business model in for-profit companies? Do businesses have any obligations to society at large? Should firms work to improve the world around them, or should their goals be solely to earn money for their owners, employees, and investors? All things being equal, would a company that focuses exclusively on the bottom-line or one that focuses equally on profits and social responsibility perform better?
