Target Behavior
A behavior refers to any observable or measurable movement of an individual. In the event that a particular behavior is the focus for change, it is defined as a target behavior (Alberto and Troutman, (2012). An example of my target behavior is staying focus for 30 minutes. The reason for stating the behavior in observable and measurable terms is to enable the collection of accurate and reliable data. I chose this behavior due to the fact I am unable to remain focus on learning materials for 30 minutes or longer within any given day. One of the dimensions that will be used is frequency data. Here, measurement regards how often the individual engages in the target behavior. I will measure each day of the week that I attempt to study materials. Two methods will be used to measure frequency, the first one being time sampling. Here, data will be collected every five minutes to determine the duration of behavior. Event sampling will also used to record frequency of behavior occurrence, where the pattern of behavior over a specific time period will be analyzed. Other than frequency data, duration data will be used to record how long I can stay focus on learning material. Both frequency and duration data will be collected for a period of two weeks so as to identify a trend.
Track baseline data of your selected behavior that you would like to change over a 3-day period.
