Topic: Multi-scale modeling of wet granulation process

During this project, I carried out the following roles and responsibilities.

  • Carry out a detailed analysis of granulation techniques such as high shear, melt, spray drying, low shear, fluid bed, wet and high shear and make comparisons on the same
  • Identify granulation input parameters (viscosity, surface tension and amount of liquid binder; particle shape, wettability, solubility, surface area and particle size distribution for the feed material).
  • Derive the granule characteristics including moisture content, density, size, solid state form, wet mass consistency and porosity.
  • Make a Multi-scale model interrelating the resultant granule characteristics to the input variables, from experimental data, optimizing mixer load, massing time, liquid addition rate, impeller and chopper speeds.
  • Simulate the models, derive and characterize their respective wet granulation parameters to establish the best control models for particular parameters.
