Assignment - Toxicology and Occupational Hygiene
Title: Management of risks of exposure to Aviation Fuels.
Exposure to hydrocarbons such as aviation fuel produces some health concerns for humans. Those working in the aviation industry are vulnerable to exposure in some ways, in particular, relating to jet fuel.
Your first task is to identify the potential risks by consulting articles from recognised peer-reviewed journals and other appropriate authoritative sources relating to human exposure to jet fuels based on petroleum source and the prevalent refuelling processes.
Secondly, examine alternatives to current aviation ground-based refuelling practices and aviation fuel types that may reduce the risk of exposure to individuals and the occupational environment.
However, be aware that alternative aviation fuels may bring their own set of occupational health and toxicology concerns that should be noted and compared against the risks imposed by the petroleum-based jet fuels used nowadays.
You are expected to conclude with concrete and justifiable suggestions for the use of conventional or alternative jet fuels as well as the adoption of particular refuelling processes.
