Case Study

Renal Rebecca Finnegan, age 55, is a thin-frail female presenting to the emergency department. In her medical history she has: type 1 diabetes mellitus which she was diagnosed with at age 10, hypertension, peripheral neuropathy in her feet, and she has chronic renal failure. She was diagnosed with renal failure 5 years ago and now is requiring hemodialysis three times a week for the past year. She has had an arteriovenous (AV) fistula placed but it is currently nonfunctional. She has had three surgical procedures for AV fistulas, and are a short time, they have all become nonfunctional.
