The three-step process for solving an ethical problem:

(1) define the problem

(2) analyze the actions or identify potential causes from organizational behavior

(3) take action or action taken

I currently work for Bank of America and have been for the last ten years.

An example of an ethical issue that I faced when I saw my friend submitting forged claim bills at the office we both worked.

  • Define the problem: I gathered information about the consequences that may result from my friend's behavior. I also collected information about all the parties that can be affected by this behavior, along with the possible penalties and actions that may result if such an incident is caught.
  • Analyze: I analyzed this situation from different ethical perspectives and formed other possibilities related to what I can and should do in this situation. I made a list of such alternatives.
  • Solution: I then, based on my analysis, selected one option which seemed perfect to me. In this case, I chose to inform my manager so that action can be taken against my friend as it was my moral and ethical duty both as an employee and a friend.

Do you agree or disagree with the discussion?
