Thoughts on Democracies maintain balance by establishing their power from the people of the state. This allows for self-governing policies where people get to help create policies allowing everyone who is a citizen of that state to have an equal say. This can also be good in elections where serious measures are taken to ensure they are fair and no external forces are manipulating the elections. In democracies like the United States, we also have a system of checks and balances so that way no one branch of the government gets too much power to prevent the fall into authoritarianism. With the liberty that democracies provide this also comes with civil liberties which include but are not limited to freedom of speech, assembly, and religious beliefs. Democracies do fall short in a few areas, with one being that policies both internal and external change quite often. Democracies can also fall short if one branch obtains too much power or if a leader starts to undermine the rules which is the case with Venezuela's democratic backsliding.
