The first product that comes to mind when thinking about failed first movers is the Google Glass. Launched in 2013, Google Glass was highly anticipated as the first "wearable computer", Google invested heavily in the marketing campaign for the product, however, Google had to deal with several issues related to the product, such as immature technology, privacy rights, wi-fi signal health concerns and too much media hype. It was never clear what exactly the product did and who it was targeted to.

After Google discontinued the Google Glass in 2015, several companies have picked up where Google left, such as Snapchat's Spectables, which serves as a video recording smartglass for the Snapchat service. Its camera lens is capable of recording short video segments and syncing with a smartphone to upload to the user's online account.
