1. Think about one of the leadership theories you learned in this unit. Based on that theory, evaluate how you would like to improve your own leadership skills.

2. Think about someone you know who is both an excellent follower and leader who has had a positive impact in your life. How does that person's followership and leadership qualities affect each other? How has he or she affected you?

3. Motivation is different for each of us. Leaders struggle to keep individuals motivated. Research indicates that a motivated individual is a more productive worker. Additionally, keeping an individual motivated can be challenging. For this unit's journal entry, share a list of the top five things that motivate you, and explain how a leader could use these motivators to help you advance in your career.

4. Successful companies often have missions that proclaim a noble purpose such as improving people's lives, making transportation safer, or improving accessibility to sustainable resources. Leaders frame a noble purpose that inspires and leads their followers. When people have a sense of purpose in their work and are able to see the positive difference their work can make in the world, they may perform at a higher level.

Consider your place of employment or a company where you would like to work. How would you integrate a noble purpose into your workplace? How would you use your noble purpose to inspire your coworkers?

5. Being aware of your personal leadership style will help you understand your leadership potential and empower you to lead effectively. A leader's level of self-confidence can affect his or her ability to achieve goals. Complete the Chapter 2: Self-Assessment: How Self-Confident are You? 6. Effective 21st century leaders recognize the importance of both emotional intelligence (EQ) and cognitive intelligence (IQ) as driving forces in their ability to succeed. As a leader, how would you develop the four basic components of EQ (self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management) in your subordinates? Use specific examples in your response.

7. Team cohesiveness is influenced by the variables of team interaction, shared goals, and personal attraction to the team. Choose a team that you have been a part of in the past. This can be a sports team, work team, or personal team. Consider the relationship between team cohesiveness and performance by examining the factors that affected your team's cohesiveness. What factors positively affected your team's cohesiveness? What factors negatively affected your team's cohesiveness? What will you do differently in your next team experience to improve team cohesiveness in order to improve the overall performance of the team?
