Think about a career path that you desire...artist, model, video game designer, doctor, rocket scientist, etc. Then apply that career path idea to the questions below. Many people talk themselves out of pursuing a career they love. These could be some of those people's beliefs: 1) Believing they have to choose between what they love and what's practical. 2) Believing what they love will lead to poverty. 3) Believing they don't have the talent or initiative to achieve what they want. 4) Believing that only the lucky end up doing what they love. 5) Believing their career choice is a way to win approval from others. Take a little time to think about each of these and then comment on at least 3 of them. Do you see yourself in any of situations based on your desired career path? What steps could we take to change our beliefs about doing what we love? Example: You want to be an artist. Is that practical from the financial perspective or should you pursue it because you love it? Do you think you have the talent to be a successful artist? Will your family approve of that career path? What steps could you take to change the belief that if you pursue a career as an artist you will be poor or fail? Example: You want to be a CEO. Is that practical considering you have a 2.0 GPA and have been fired from 3 jobs? What steps can you take to change the perception that you aren't cut out to be a CEO?
