Thermal Fluid Systems

A furnace burning C2H6 is used to provide heat to a boiler.  The boiler produces 21 kg/s of dry saturated steam (saturated vapor) at 2 MPa and condensate enters the boiler at 110oC and the same pressure.  Product gases leave the boiler at 500 K.  The fuel is burned with air and both of the reactants enter the furnace at 25oC and 1 atm.  The products behave as an ideal gas and the oxygen concentration (by volume) exiting the combustor is 4%.  Determine:

  • The equivalence ratio.
  • The adiabatic flame temperature, in K.
  • The average specific heat of the product mixture, in kJ/kg.K.
  • The mass flow rate of products, in kg/s.
  • The mass flow rate of fuel, in kg/s.
  • The mass of CO2 produced per day, in kg
