Name That Theory
There are many theories of motivation. Some are interested in why people are motivated, others in the process of motivation, and yet others in the practical application of our knowledge about motivation. The hows and whys of motivation are important in a theoretical sense. A manager's ability to apply this knowledge is critical in a practical sense. You can have the best product, an appropriate structure, and a great strategy, but if you cannot motivate your workers to perform at a high level, you still will not succeed.
This exercise will help you differentiate among the various motivational theories. You will be asked to match an individual's actions, attitudes, or beliefs to a given theory.
Roll over each name to read a description. Using the information provided about their actions, attitudes, or beliefs, match each individual to a given theory. Then, place the name in the correct column in the chart.
