Do you believe Erikson's 60-year-old theory of psychosocial development is still relevant in the twenty-first century world? Are children still allowed to explore and discover the world on their own? What do behavioral statistics say about parents' willingness to let children be children these days (if they say anything at all). Is it possible that Erikson's theory is still sound, and that by violating it helicopter parents are producing a generation of insecure, doubting, shamed, socially immature children? Or is it possible that children, being resilient, will overcome parental domination and turn out all right after all.
