The unmanned exploration of planets such as Mars requires a high level of autonomy because of the communication delays between robots in space and their Earth-based stations. This affects all the components of the system: planning, sensing, and mechanism. In particular, such a level of autonomy can be achieved only if each robot has a perception system that can reliably build and maintain models of the environment. The perception system is a major part of the development of a complete system that includes planning and mechanism design. The target vehicle is the Spider-bot, a four-legged walking robot shown in Figure DP8.2 (a), being developed at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory [18]. The control system of one leg is shown in Figure DP8.2 (b).
Independent random samples of 12 users of the other system rate their system on the same scale. Based on these data, are the two telecommunication system equally liked? Explain.

One group is given the new drug and the other group is given the standard drug. Data are recorded on the effects of each drug. Is the research division using dependent or independent samples? Why?
Samples of daily production volume for the three methods are as follows. Assume that these are random samples from the populations of daily production volume. Use the median test to help determine whether the three methods are equally effective.
Obtaining uniform random numbers as instructed at the beginning of the Problems section, generate four random observations from an exponential distribution with mean = 1.
As an illustration, if contestant 1 obtains a smaller value than contestants 2 and 3 but contestant 4 has a smaller value than contestant 1 (X4 n) as a function of n.
For the data giben below, prepare a R-chart. Note that the sample size is three.
Suppose wheat and sugar are two basic ingredients necessary to bake two items: a loaf of bread and a muffin. A baker has 25 pounds of wheat and 5 pounds of sugar.
Provide an overview of the problem you identified. What are some research components that could be measured in order to address the research question or hypothesis you identified? How might a researcher obtain that information?
