The narrative found below depicts a portion of the typical data entry process for a special order product, for the Domino Company.

A customer manually complete a sales order form (printed in triplicate) and brings copies 2 and 3 to the Special Order Department. (The customer retains copy 1). The Special Order clerk (clerk 1) enters the document into a system of networked personal computers e.g. IT. The system records the input on a database (disk) and notifies the user (clerk 1) of the acceptance of each input.

The documents are then forwarded to a clerk in Sales Department (clerk 2) who keys in the documents again.

Differences are resolved by the system and input is are updated to reflect verifications and corrections and availability of product. Copy 2 of the document is filed by customer number, then date, and copy 3 is sent to the warehouse for order fulfillment.
