A set of 17th and 18th century views on the execution of Charles I, including descriptions of how he acted and what he said on the way to his death.
A series of letters from the Venetian ambassador about the return of Charles II. Please note that these are from a much larger printed collection of papers that has been transcribed and put online, so what we have are many shorter documents from June 1660. Most of them are from Francesco Giavarina, but not all. If you can't figure something out, feel free to ask. Note that there are a lot of people in Europe who are very interested in what's going to happen now that Charles II is actually getting the throne, and pay attention to how Giavarina describes the reactions of people in England to the return of the king.
Consider what these sources tell us about royal power in England and how it was viewed elsewhere. Some things to think about include: How do the Stuarts compare to the Bourbons in France? What are the arguments for getting rid of a king- and what happens when one is brought back to power? How is the execution of Charles I documented and remembered?
