The state of Washington is a pretty small state, but within its borders it houses a wide variety of different ecosystems. In particular, along the western part of the state one finds one of the rarest of ecosystems, a temperate rain forest. Also, east of the Cascade mountains you would find another unusual ecosystem-a temperate desert. How can this be?
