The Stamp act of 1765 was an act created that required all things paper have a stamp to be purchased for it. This was created in order to create revenue, tax the colonies, and maintain control over them. Britain used this revenue to help recover money lost to the war. This act greatly upset the people. They began boycotting their products and either purchasing items from there in the colonies or creating them themselves. This act was one factor that aided in unifying the colonists against the crown and is also where the phrase "taxation without representation is tyranny" (OpenStax, 2019) sourced from.
The Boston massacre occurred in 1770 and resulted from long term tension between people of Boston and British soldiers. People of Boston felt the soldiers were a hinderance to their livelihoods, their families, as well as their homes. People of Boston would often harass soldiers with words or physically with aggressive acts such as throwing snow balls. This caused troops to fire back and in the biggest occurrence (the Boston Massacre) they fired their weapons killing five people. Colonists use this as propaganda to rally together and fight back against Britain. This demonstrated level of hostility that had boiled up between the people of Boston and British soldiers. (Openstax, 2019).
In my opinion, Boston massacre more significant as this event was one of the final straws in the colonies gaining their independence from Britain. It was one of the greatest aids in unifying the colonists to fight against Britain for their independence. While all of the occurrences named for this post played a big role in getting to that point, I feel this was the biggest push.
Declaration of Independence was significant to the American revolution as it clearly stated the colonies issues with Britain as well as citing the intent to no longer be a part of Britain and to, instead, become their own nation. Inspired the colonies to unify and fight for what they believed they deserved which is their freedom and rights. The colonists were able to unify under common cause in order to fight for what they believed was their God given rights. It included one of the most powerful lines in history naming their right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
