Beginning in the 1900's, water troughs called \track pans" were built between the rails to allow steam locomotives to scoop water into their tenders without stopping. Each tender equipped with a scoop could pick up 3.5 gallons per foot of scooping distance while traveling at a steady 50 mile per hour. The scoop is inclined from the bottom of the tender at an angle of 30 degrees. Estimate the added drawbar force, in lbf, required to pull the tender while scooping water.
