The role of nurses in quality improvement (QI) is critical and it is guided by the application of the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSAs). These components are part of the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) framework, which aims to prepare nurses to improve healthcare outcomes and ensure patient safety. In reference to nurses' knowledge, skills, and attitude. Knowledge would be a representation of the nurse's conceptual skills, Application of those skills would fall under the nurse's technical skills and ability to perform those duties, and attitude would fall under the nurse's human skills which includes the ability to show compassion, body language, and sometimes provide a listening ear without always listening to react. Many times, we work with co-workers or we ourselves may be the coworker in the unit that have the best skills and can quickly function in a code but have the worst attitudes in healthcare. Other times, it can be that the skills are good, the ability to conceptualize through knowledge-based protocols is limited, but that colleague has the best attitude ever. This can be the difference in quality and safety depending on the population of patients being taken care.
