The Radical and the Republican Essay
This essay will ask you to examine the main themes of this work. Among these are: the differences between the early lives and careers of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, and how they informed their views on slavery and racial equality; how Lincoln and Douglass agreed and/or disagreed about the possibility of using political methods to undermine slavery; the differences between Lincoln the politician and Douglass the reformer; the ways in which each man understood the Civil War to be a war for the destruction of slavery; how each man understood the process of emancipation during the war itself; similarities and differences between each man's concept of freedom.
Summarize the major issues and content of readings. Briefly reiterate author's key points and reasoning on the issues. Present your opinions and comments with reasoning on author's viewpoints
