The Principles of Being Selfish

Rand argues that it is hard to be selfish and that many people are not as selfish as they should be in their lives. What does she mean by this. Additionally, in the essay 'Isn't Everyone Selfish' why is it argued that 'everyone isn't selfish' and that selfishness does not mean 'doing whatever you feel like doing'?
