Compensation is never just a technical issue. It always involves power, influence, and money-which is never more clear than in a unionized environment. Moreover, mistakes can pose a significant financial burden in the form of disputes, lost flexibility, work stoppages, and other factors. This activity asks you to consider these issues in greater detail.

Watch the video "Alternative Compensation - NEAToday.org Report From the Summit" by NEAToday.org. The video was published in January of 2010 and is 2:30 minutes long. In this video, the commentator interviews several experts about the political issues of NEA members accepting alternative forms of compensation. One point of debate is the association's rejection of matching teacher pay to student test score performance.
