Imagine a person visits the australian outback, where someone gives the person a small container of “hair conditioner” made from herbs used by the native Aboriginals. The person tries the product and is delighted by how it leaves her hair feeling smooth and silky. She decides to market this new product, and invests $100,000 of her money buing supplies and getting suitable equipment to produce the conditioner. She decides to approach hair salons with the new product for resale to their clientele. She considers two approaches: One is to offer small sample-size packets for 99 cents (which is far below the $3.00 value of the contents). The other approach is to offer a coupon with a face value of $2.00 for a bottle of the conditioner that retails for $9.00.
