Question

A patient is an elderly gentleman who was admitted from the ER with pain and swelling of his right knee. The pain is throbbing in nature, and the knee feels warm and is very tender to touch. The patient has a knee X-ray, and uric acid levels are elevated. Colchicine is started, and the patient's symptoms are much improved within 48 hours. The patient has diabetes. The patient is advised to limit alcohol consumption and to avoid dietary purines. Final Diagnosis: Gouty arthropathy right knee, idiopathic Diabetes mellitus, type 2 on insulin.
