Temperatures should be taken orally in infants. Temporal artery thermometer readings may be affected by perspiration or air blowing over the face. Temperature assessment may be delegated to the unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP). An oral temperature should be avoided if the client has oxygen by nasal cannula. Tympanic temperature readings closely reflect core body temperature.
