The negative impact of mental illness
Examples, what are the negative consequences associated with mental illness? Do these people live as long? Are they more likely to be in prison? To drop out of school? To be unemployed? Divorced? How does it impact their friends and family? What are the costs to society etc.
Please do not select one specific mental illness to talk about. You can talk about the connection between mental illness and criminal as my research question. You can use the movie "Joker" as one of your example in the essay.
Psyc 361 - Spring 2020
This course is designed to help you develop your writing skills. For the first paper we will work on the paper over several weeks, giving you input and guidance as you work on your paper. We will discuss the components of strong writing, how to evaluate writing and how to revise. It is hoped that these discussions Ifthe materials we develop will help you improve your scientific writing skills. You will begin by writing a rough draft and will then get feedback and revise before submitting the final version. The revisions before the final paper will not receive a separate grade but are required. If you do not complete one of the prior steps or are late getting things in this will be reflected in the final score.
Paper #1 The final version must be at least 6 pages not including the abstract, tables/figures or references. In other words, the main "body" of the paper must be 6 pages in the final version. There is not a set requirement for the number of references needed. However, as we will discuss in class, scientific writing ideally is focused on summarizing the literature by discussing what is found across studies that leads to a conclusion or new information. Therefore, we strive to have several references to support an argument instead of discussing one paper at a time,
o Please see the syllabus for how many points this paper is worth
o As we have begun to discuss, mental illness is common and has a significant negative impact. For this paper you can write on either of these topics.
