Vertical structures have hierarchies that are layered. There are a lot of levels of bosses between the lowest level of employee and the CEO. Horizontal structures have hierarchies that are flatter. Most employees are on the same level and there aren't as many supervisors to report to. Each provides advantages and disadvantages.
