I decided to discuss a social movement that I was very surprised to see in our text, as it's headquarters was based out of Lynchburg, VA- only 20 minutes from where I grew up. Jerry Falwell and his 'Moral Majority' fell into the Evangelical social movements that rejected the new ideals from the '70s-'90s, like gender roles, and welfare states. Even as a child, I remember my grandparents talking about Jerry Falwell and the Thomas Road Baptist Church- and not nicely. A lot of the locals around Lynchburg thought him radical and his views judgmental and outdated. This one, I think classifies as a Conservative Movement, because of it's rejection of forward social progressions, and embracing of more traditional values. The Moral Majority is a Microsocial movement, stemming from the status strains of social changes of the time.
