The Michaelson-Menten mechanism for enzyme catalyzed reactions,

E+S <==(-> rate k1 & <- rate k2)==> E*S complex --(k3)-> E+P

gives rise to the following equation relating the velocity of reaction (V or d[P]/dt) to the substrate concentration [S]:

V=k3[E(total)]{[S]/(Km+[S])} where Km=(k2+k3)/k1

(a) Use the equation as the basis for an overview of mechanisms of regulation of biochemical function.
