An English teacher believes that there is a relationship between gender and reading ability. He takes a random sample of 90 boys and 75 girls to test this idea. For each sample, he measures their reading ability on a scale of 1 to 20 with higher scores indicating greater ability. The mean score for boys was 7.7 with a standard deviation of 3.1. The mean score for girls was 11.1 with a standard deviation of 3.2. Is there a significant difference between groups? Be sure to state H0, state H1, calculate and state the test statistic, and provide the decision/conclusion statement.
