Prepare the report keeping in view all the attributes of the SOs given on next page. There will be a subsequent presentation to check some Consider damped of the attributes that cannot be addressed in the report.

Consider a real-life system having at least a 3rd order, type-0 and  possibly over damopen-loop response; do the following:

1. Get the mathematical model of the system

2. Check the stability of the system

3. Considering a step input and certain initial conditions for input and output, compute and plot the zero-state, zero-input, natural and forced components, and the total output

4. Compute and plot the closed-loop unit step response (unity feedback) without initial conditions, analyze this closed-loop response by finding out the closed-loop poles (stability) and computing the steady-state error

5. Identify the issues (problems) with the closed-loop performance considering

6. Give the different alternative designs for a PID compensation

7. Design two different PID compensations following the detailed procedures

8. Compare the performance of these both designs with the one found out in (4) above; comment and propose the possible corrections in any one of these designs

9. Produce the MATLAB® codes and plots for steps (3), (4) and (7) above k

10. Conclude your results in a comprehensive report; also mention the reference(s) to any consulted materials.

Outcome (a): The artifact demonstrates the student's ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering fundamentals.

Outcome (c): The artifact demonstrates the student's ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability. The student is able to:

• c.1: Define the problem
• c.2: Plan an effective design strategy
• c.3: Develop and compares alternative solutions and select a baseline design
• c.4: Considers realistic constraints
• c.5: Optimize (reflect back on) the baseline design
• c.6: Document the design as well as the design procedure

Outcome (e): The artifact demonstrates the student's ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems. The student is able to:

• e.1: Capture essential information and deal with ambiguity
• e.2: Approach and model the problem in a logical and technically correct fashion
• e.3: Describe a solution procedure
• e.4: Reach and reflect upon the solution (comments and suggestions/corrections)

Outcome (g): The artifact demonstrates the student's ability to communicate effectively in oral, written, graphical and visual forms. The student is able to:

• g.1: Provide factually correct content
• g.2: Professional written work (applies to reports and presentations)
• g.3: Language (applies to reports and oral presentations)
• g.4: Identify and address the readers/audience and their needs
• g.5: Enhance communications using graphical illustrations
• g.6: Support credibility and authenticity of the information (references etc.)

Outcome (k): The artifact demonstrates the student's ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools (MATLAB® etc.) necessary for engineering practice (analyzing and solving engineering problems)
