EHR systems are not failure proof. Systems get glitches, bugs, system upgrade time, viruses, file corruption, or there could be a power failure.

You are one of the executive officers in your hospital. A few days ago there was a power failure that lasted the majority of the day. It was a disaster, as there were no protocols in place to cover when the EHR system went down. The CEO is angry over the lost revenue, and angry with you because IT reports to you.

In your first post:

1. Describe the problems that can be caused by even temporary loss of the EHR, including the impact on patient care and revenue.

2. Describe how a facility can prevent these disasters from impacting patient care and revenues by discussing back up plans, policies, equipment, or whatever your research indicates might be helpful. Be specific but comprehensive. Discuss many options, not just one.

Post substantive responses two at least two classmates, in which you explain to your classmates what items they missed and why it is important to include them.

Make sure that you perform credible, outside research to support your answers. You must then properly cite these references within your post to receive credit. All replies must be substantive, and not merely “I agree” postings. You must advance the discussion.
