The history of Texas is very important, it has helped to shape how politics run in this State. I feel that Texas being an independent nation prior to it joining the union was very important to show Texas's very individualistic tendencies. After the civil war and how things ended up for native Texas during the initial reconstruction era helped to solidify a bad attitude towards certain groups and the national government. I feel that the big money making shift to oil is when Texas started really having a more pro-business feel and that really plays into the States political feel. I feel if you dong have this history you can not really grasp the intricacies of Texas politics. I think the way Texas was inhabited by immigrants helped shape certain areas and that is why there is a mix of both individualistic and elitists' political views.
