The "hero's journey" is archetypal in that it exists in the mythologies of all cultures and civilizations past and present. In each instance, it culminates in a transformation of consciousness. According to mythological tradition, when is a person a hero? Describe the "hero's journey" beginning with 'The Call'. Be sure to illustrate your ideas with examples (e.g. "Pans Labyrinth", "The Fisher King", "The Whale Rider", "The Story of Siegfried", "The Ramayana", or other mythological or literary reference.

Be sure to comment on the psychological significance of each phase of the journey that on one level, is taken by all who have had to overcome personal adversities while striving unknowingly, to discover their true nature, and a more mature attitude towards life.
