Refer to thisreport about the future of cars.Click on "Maps/Graphs" on the list on the left side of the screen.  Carefully read all maps and graphs that are in that report.

  • Note:The graphs can be made larger (to read text more easily) by increasing your browser magnification orCTRL +on your keyboard. CTRL -will decrease the magnification.  If you have trouble viewing the graphs, please contact your instructor.
  1. In your own words, and in complete sentences, answer the following questions:
    • How many states considered legislation to allow self-driving cars?
    • Approximately how many traffic fatalities were there in total in 1980?  How many fatalities were there per 100 million miles traveled?
    • In which age groups did the percentage of licensed drivers increase between 1982 and 2012?  Approximately how many percentage points did each age group increase?
    • Describe anything that makes the graphs hard to read.  What would you do differently?
    • Describe 3 additional pieces of information that you can read from these data displays.

To get full credit for this write-up, you should:

  1. Answer all parts of the problem.
  2. Show your justification for every step in your solution. Use clear, mathematically accurate language.
  3. Label all numbers with the units they represent (e.g., 0.3048 ft/meter).
  4. Clearly state your conclusions using complete English sentences (for example, "Jill needs to add 43 gallons of water to her pool").

You may use ideas from the discussion board, but you are expected to write your solution using your own words to explain your reasoning. The report should be no more than 3 pages. Ideally, your solution will be typed in MS Word, although you may hand-write mathematical expressions (in dark pen) if need be, and then scan your paper, check that all hand-written portions are legible, and upload it.

Compose your work using a word processor (or other software as appropriate) and save it frequently to your computer. Be sure to check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors before you upload it. When you are ready to submit your work, click "Browse My Computer" and find your file. Once you have located your file, click "Open" and, if successful, the file name will appear under the Attached files heading. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Submit."
