The purpose of this prelab is to help in the comprehension and understanding of a statistical concept discussed in the class to date. It is intended to deepen your understanding of one particular concept in detail.

(1) Select a statistical concept. Here is a general (somewhat broad) listing of concepts covered in the second part of your course:
•Estimating a population mean with confidence: discuss confidence interval estimation, the interpretation of the interval or the level, when the response is quantitative.

  • Testing theories about a population mean: the procedure and how conclusions are made.
  • Paired Data Analyses ~ Estimating a population mean difference or testing a theory about a population mean difference.
  • Comparing two population rates or two population means with independent random samples.
  • Comparing many population means with ANOVA.
  • Modeling the Relationship between two variables and using the model for predictions.

(2) Select and review the relevant information from lecture notes, lab workbook, and homework. You may use other sources of information that are not required in this class if you wish, but it is not necessary for this assignment.

(3) Create a typewritten summary (1 page maximum) of the topic which includes the following:
•A definition and description of the concept(s) in your own words. If you select a statistical technique, then you should also list out the steps needed to calculate it, and
•A thought-question or example that addresses the concept.
