The company makes two kinds of ice cream: chocolate and vanilla. The manufacturing plan cycles between two flavors of ice cream. Demand for chocolate ice cream is 500 kg/hr and for vanilla ice cream, the demand is 200 kg/hr. It takes 1 hr to switchover from vanilla to chocolate, whereas it takes 30 mins to switchover from chocolate to vanilla. In other words, the required setup time for chocolate flavored ice cream is 60 mins, but 30 mins for vanilla ice cream. Production rate per hour is 800 kg when operating and same for both flavors.

a. Suppose the company produces 2500 kg of chocolate ice cream and 1000 kg of vanilla ice cream in each cycle. How much ice cream (in kg) does the company produce per hour?

b. Suppose the company produces 3000 kg of chocolate ice cream and 1200 kg of vanilla ice cream in each cycle. What would be the utilization of this process (the fraction of time the process is actually producing product)?

c. Suppose the company produces 8000 kg of chocolate ice cream and 3200 kg of vanilla ice cream in each cycle. What would be the average inventory (kg) of chocolate ice cream?

d. How many kg of chocolate and vanilla ice cream should be produced with each cycle (a batch of chocolate and a batch of vanilla) so as to minimize inventory while satisfying demand?
