The Budget Development Project

The Budget Development Project provides the reader with a comprehensive examination of a fictitious school and school district. The school will be known as Mountain Vista Elementary School, and the district will be called Mesa Valley Independent School District (ISD). Mesa Valley ISD serves a major suburban area just north of a large urban center. The school district has earned an outstanding reputation over the years for its strong academic and extracurricular programs, its effective school leadership, and its financial stability. The district's tax base, while more than adequate, remains most interestingly diverse, with local revenues generated from the agribusiness industry, which includes pecan growing, milk and dairy products, cotton farming, and cattle ranching, as well as an infusion of high-tech industries that ultimately attracted the now-famous computer software company, Styl-USA, Inc. With a diverse tax base also comes a diverse population with socioeconomic levels representative of the poor agribusiness workers, the medium-income urban-flight families, and the independently wealthy CEOs-all of whom now reside in what has become known as Technology Valley.
