I need help with a few questions please. Thales, Anaximander, and Anaximenes all suggested that there was a primordial substance from which all things were made. For Thales it was water; for Anaximander, the apeiron or “boundless”; for Anaximenes air. Discuss these basic claims and why each of these might be a good candidate for a fundamental substance. Do you agree with any of these claims, or do you have your own suggestion? 2. Plato is deeply critical of the function of myth and poetry and sees them as inferior to logos or argument. With reference to both Book X and the divided line, discuss why myth and poetry are problematic for Plato. How convincing is his argument? Might there be other ways to think about imitation?
