The Johnson County Health Department has a team of approximately 40 staff and is located in a moderately-populated rural area and is funded by the state. This team meets weekly and discusses issues and health concerns within the community. In this staff of 40, there are various types of staff including: registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, social workers, and certified home health aides. One of the registered nurses voiced his concern on the increase of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that he has confirmed over the last few months. They all discussed their concerns about the rise of STIs and decided they needed some definitive data to decide what populations were the most at-risk, and therefore needed more education on prevention.
