Numerous studies have shown that IQ scores have been increasing, generation by generation, for years (Flynn, 1984, 1999). This increase is called the Flynn Effect, and the data indicate that the increase appears to be about 7 points per decade. To demonstrate this phenomenon, a researcher obtained an IQ test that was written in 1986. At the time the test was prepared, it was standardized to produce a population mean of 100. The researcher administered the test to a random sample of 25 high school students and obtained a mean of 121 and a standard deviation of 30.

A) What are the hypotheses?

B) State your critical value(s) using α = .05.

C) Conduct the test. Be sure to include the following, if necessary - test statistic, degrees of freedom, computations...

D) Can the researcher conclude that his sample is significantly more intelligent than a population with a mean of 100? (Be sure to state your conclusion in terms of the null hypothesis and the problem.)
