Since the Enlightenment, there has been a growing tension between religion and psychology. Over the 18th and 19th centuries with the introduction of theories from Darwin and Freud, the struggle between faith and science has hindered the treatment and care of those that have mental health issues (Sullivan et al., 2014). Currently, there is a lack of trust between clergy and clinician which hinders the ability of both to collaborate with one another. Over the last few decades there are certain ways clergy view mental health issues: spiritual problem with a spiritual solution; mental problem with a spiritual solution, or a mental illness with a spiritual AND mental solution (Sullivan et al., 2014).

After reviewing the attached article, what is your perspective about what the authors recommend is the opportunities available in the mental health field where faith and medicine can work together?
