Copper has the following properties: specific heat (solid) = 386J.kg -1 C -1 , latent heat (fusion) = 2.07 x 10 5 J.kg -1 , coefficient of thermal expansion = 17 10 -6 C -1 , melting point of copper = 1356K.

a) How much heat is required to raise the temperature of a Copper block of mass 550 grams from20oC to 1400K?

b) You have a heating system with an electrical power rating of 12,500 W. How long will it take to perform the activity defined in part (a)

c) If the Copper block is 10.0 m long at 20 o C, how long (it's length!) will it be at its melting point (before it starts to melt)?
