Question: The enzyme telomerase consists of protein and a RNA containing the template sequence that directs the addition of an end sequence appropriate for the species. Telomere sequences for Tetrahymena (TTGGGG) were cloned into the telomere ends of artificial chromosomes that were introduced into yeast. After several cell divisions, the ends of the artificial chromosomes had the sequence TGGTGG. Why do you think these sequences were added?
