Will the teaching below be appropriate as teaching methods for online students?
In all fields of science, the replication "crisis" has been an increasingly worrisome issue that threatens public knowledge and the reputation of science as a whole. According to Diener and Biswas-Diener (2020), "...only about 1/3 of the psychological studies in premier journals replicate!" (para. 10). Replication allows for stronger validity in previous findings as well as provides more insight on the topic being researched. It is imperative to replicate studies to prevent the increasing number of false-positives in publications. False-positives are essentially when researchers incorrectly reject the null hypothesis - Type I errors (Simmons et al., 2011).
Two teaching methods that I would utilize to further explain the concepts above to a group of online students would be by promoting Metacognitive Awareness as well as Collaborative & Interactive Learning. Promoting Metacognitive Awareness allows students to create their own learning strategies while Collaborative & Interactive Learning allows the students to work together and allow voices of more introverted students to be heard (Smith & Brame, 2014). Every student has a different way of learning with different schedules outside of the classroom (physically or virtually). Allowing the student to work around their own schedule can provide more space and time for the student to learn unfamiliar content and even ask questions in a timely manner. In addition, open discussions encompassing the above subjects can aid students that may be confused or add more insight and information that was already not previously presented in the online lesson.
